

Star Wars: Rebels mentioned the Mandalorian Wars in the episode "Trials of the Darksaber", a conflict that involved Darth Revan and actually ended in Knights of the Old Republic 2. Lucasfilm has previously hinted at Revan's return in other media. BioWare brought the character back in Star Wars: The Old Republic, but like KOTOR, the events of that game are not canon. Revan standing at the forefront is a testament to the enduring popularity of Knights of the Old Republic and Revan in particular. The Crusaders were the Jedi tasked with fighting the Mandalorians, and fans assumed that the pendant belonged to Revan. This showed up in Star Wars: The Last Jedi: The Visual Dictionary, as an items in the home of Luke Skywalker. There was previously a mention of a Recovered Jedi Crusader Pendant, which had a fragmented crystal from Sith lightsaber mounted within. The legions listed in the visual dictionary are: Each Sith Trooper legion is named after an ancient Sith Lord. One page of the book talks about Sith Troopers, the red-clad soldiers of Palpatine's Final Order fleet.

The Sith Trooper Legions are a nice nod to older Sith. And one detail points to the re-canonization of Darth Revan, the lead character of BioWare's much-loved Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, and two villains from Star Wars: The Force Unleashed.
